Jesus H. Payan - Place 8 Council Appointee
Jesús H. Payán was appointed to the Board of Trustees of the Fort Worth Employees’ Retirement Fund in 2009. He currently serves on the Investment, Legislative and Ad-Hoc (Governance) Committees.
Mr. Payán earned a Bachelor of Arts in history, a Bachelor of Arts in ethnic studies and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin.
He began his legal career in 2001 in the Dallas office of the international law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld LLP where he was an Investment Fund/Corporate Attorney. At Akin Gump, he was responsible for advising and structuring hedge funds, private equity funds and fund of funds in a variety of jurisdictions, including the United States, Canada, the Cayman Islands, BVI, Bermuda, the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia.
Since 2006, Mr. Payán has served as General Counsel & Chief Compliance Officer of Crestline Investors, Inc., an institutional investment manager based in Fort Worth. At Crestline, he is responsible for overseeing the firm’s legal and compliance departments and attending to the firm’s legal and regulatory compliance matters. In addition, he has experience with the creation, implementation and review of regulatory compliance programs and legal representation of investors and managers in a broad variety of investment strategies. He sits or advises a number of charitable boards and organizations and often speaks on topics related to the practice of law and its intersection with the investment community.
Mr. Payán has surpassed the minimum education requirements for pension Trustees required by Texas Pension Review Board.
