Interested in the Retirement Fund Board of Trustees Nominations and Elections Process?

It's election time and the Retirement Fund Board of Trustees is an important part of your pension plan. You have a voice and a vote that can impact how your plan is funded and administered. Whether you run for a Place on the Board or take an active role in nominating and electing your Board representative, you can make a difference in this important part of your work and life.

Nominations for Board Places 1, 3, 5 and 7 begin in May with the nominations process and the deadline for all Nominations Petitions and Letters of Nomination are due to the Retirement Fund no later than Wednesday, June 19, 5 p.m. 

Place 1 represents Employee Group A, Civil Service police personnel.

Place 3 represents Employee Group C (general employees in the following departments: City Manager, City Secretary, Communications & Public Engagement, Financial Management Services, Human Resources, Internal Audit, Law, Municipal Courts, Performance & Budget, Planning & Development, Water and Waste Water, and non-Civil Service police employees).

Place 5 represents retired Civil Service fire personnel.

Place 7 represents all retired general employees.

For Places 1 and 3, nominees must be active, vested members of the Retirement Fund and submit a petition signed by at least 75 members of the same employee group to which the nominee belongs.

For retiree elections (Places 5 and 7), Notice of Election and Nomination Forms were mailed in mid-May and must be returned (by mail or in person) to the Retirement Fund. All nominations (Petitions and Letters) must be mailed to or submitted to the Fund no later than June 19 by 5 p.m.

If there is only one nominee for any Place, there will be no election and that nominee will automatically be elected to the Board of Trustees as of Sept. 1, 2019. If there is more than one nominee from any Place, the election will be held by a third-party election company, Election-America, from July 18 through Aug. 15, 2019.
